Weather Events, Records, and Important Information

7/01 - June was cool and wet with the average monthly temperature 3.0 °F below the normal of 71.1 °F. The rainfall total was 7.58" which is slightly above the station normal of 6.87". We had a few rainy Junes including this year, 11.45" in 2007, and 9.32" in 2006 leading to the high average. The long term county average for June is 4.36". There were 17 days with measurable rainfall and an even more impressive 12 days with at least a quarter inch. The yearly rainfall deficit at the station was reduced to less than 0.25" by the end of the month. There were no 90 °F days recorded during the month with 4 being about normal.

6/26 - Pea sized hail fell during a strong thunderstorm around 6:30 PM. In the 2nd round of Tstorms just before 8 PM two 43 mph gusts were recorded. Total rainfaill measured 0.73" with the monthly total now at 7.25". The yearly deficit is now about 0.25" but the airport still has a deficit of 4.65" according to their records. There have been no 90 °F days recorded this month at the station.

6/21 - The Summer Solstice was today at 1:46 EDT which means it was the longest day of the year at 15 hours and 3 minutes. The sun is also the highest in the sky at 73.1°.

6/20 - Despite the 6.5" of rainfall this month and our yearly total now at 20.5" the station is still 0.9" below the normal of 21.4". The Reading Airport's total is 16.8" which is 4.6" short of the normal of 21.4". NOAA's total for Berks County is 19.2" which is 1.5" short of the normal rainfall of 20.7". 6/11 - Rainfall for the month is already approaching 4.2" due to the 1.17" yesterday and another ~0.50" today. Yearly rainfall is now over 18.1" with more forecasted for Friday.

6/09 - Pea sized hail fell this morning during a strong thunderstorm which dropped 0.62" of rain in a very short time. The monthly rainfall is already 2.49" so the yearly deficit at the station has now become a slight surplus. There have been two 90 ° days recorded so far this year at the station.

6/08 - Meteorological Spring Report (Mar - May) :
Based on the station averages the 2009 Spring was 0.3 °F warmer then normal with an average reading of 52.3 °F. Rainfall total was 10.83" with 5.12" falling in May and was ~1.25" above the average of 9.59". Snow totaling 4.4" fell in March with none in April or May and brought the season total to 19.6".
